With the first month of classes coming to a close, we thought we’d wrap up with a bit of what we’ve been doing over the past month.

After welcoming freshman into the dorms and our students back from a relaxing summer, our Ross BBA and MBAs, and our student athletes gathered on campus to celebrate a monumental occasion for our university – Stephen M. Ross has donated $200 million, the largest single donation in U-M history.

This kicked off what was to be the most exciting – and busy – weeks of our fall so far. Between the gift, ESPN College Game Day, the Notre Dame game, and the Maize Out Lights On student pep rally, Michigan Creative unveiled the new University Public Service Announcement – Victors Valiant.

We partnered with the students organizing the Maize Out Lights On pep rally to release the new video to our students before it aired on television, the night before the Notre Dame game.

We were fortunate enough to be a part of this planning, so we had an exclusive opportunity to announce to our followers the special guests Mary Sue Coleman, Desmond Howard, and Darren Criss, for the pep rally. Darren Criss tweeted a hint to his followers:

The pep rally was one of the most exciting events we’ve been able to be a part of this semester. It was great to see our students so excited to hear from our alums and our president, and it didn’t hurt that we had a great game the next day!

Gameday rounded out the weekend, and the #UMsocial office was all hands on deck to cover the day. We started at 8am with College Game Day, and didn’t stop until the crowd sang “Hail To The Victors” at the end of the night! In social, we were excited to see FOUR of our photos make it to Instagram’s ‘popular’ page, and had our most popular Instagram photo to date with 4404 likes! We felt like we won a gold medal at the social media Olympics.

From there, we continued on for Festifall and Go North! Fest, giving out stickers to our social savvy students, and building awareness for our student-run Twitter account, @UMichStudents.

If you didn’t get a chance to stop by our table, you can still sign up to tweet for @UMichStudents by emailing umsocial@umich.edu. Spots for this year are filling up fast!

After Festifall, we teamed up with the The School of Music, Theater and Dance to announce a new partnership with the estates of George and Ira Gershwin to provide U-M music scholars complete access to all of the Gershwins’ papers, compositional drafts and original scores to create the first-ever critical edition of their works. This partnership brings brings new educational opportunities to Michigan students. You can read more, see photos and listen to some of the works here: http://u-mich.me/1azp5qd

In the middle of this hectic month, we were fortunate enough to be able to add two more social media interns to our team. We’re thrilled to have them on board, and are looking forward to bringing you more exciting news in the coming months, plus having a little fun! You can read more about a day in the life as a UMsocial intern on their blog.  Until next time!
