LSA’s Uncommon campus video took us from the Burton Tower to a spot on Campus that was a bit less recognizable. We found ourselves at the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory. The 360 foot trough is tucked away in the ground floor of West Hall right off the engineering spot, this is a place most students past daily.

There are many things that go into creating the Michigan experience. From staying up late to paint the rock or joining the Michigan Squirrel Club out on the diag, these experiences are what makes our campus so unique. It is nearly impossible to go through your 4 years here without spending a fall afternoon in the Big House.
There is a special day in the spring when you wake up early and make the walk to the Big House together with all of your friends, classmates, professors and family to celebrate the end of your college career. This year, the University is honored to announce that Dick Costolo will be the 2013 Commencement speaker.

When we saw LSA’s video Uncommon Campus, we were eager to do a little discovery of our own around the UMich campus. Our first stop is arguably one of the most recognizable landmarks in Ann Arbor: The Burton Memorial Tower and Carillon.

Since we joined Instagram in April, we’ve been enjoying sharing our favorite photos from around Ann Arbor and celebrating campus life, as well as sharing many photos taken by our community of students, alumni, and Wolverines around the globe.
Our team in the #UMSocial office got together to discuss our favorite parts about Instagram, and best practices for those looking to build their presence. Instagram is one of our favorite platforms, as it is rapidly growing and never short of visual content.
Risk Bites creator Andrew Maynard, director of the U-M Risk Science Center and professor of environmental health sciences is flexing his social media muscle by creating short YouTube videos on a dry erase board covering issues from gun control, asbestos, BPA, and more provocative titles such as “poop on cell phones.”

Want to win friends and influence people? That, and also create great one-on-one relationships, increase awareness of your presence, and engage in a global dialogue?
Spreading information and getting followers isn’t easy, but it also isn’t hard. We’ll break down what’s been successful for @umich and what we’ve learned.
