Meet Tatyana Fykes!

Tatyana is a Purdue University Alumna. She received a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and achieved three minors in French, Communications, and Organizational Leadership and Supervision.

After graduation, Tatyana attended Specs Howard School of Media Arts in Southfield. She continued her education receiving a diploma in Broadcast Media Arts to pursue her career in Journalism. Interning at WDIV-Local 4 in Detroit, she gained knowledge and experience in being a Special Projects Intern.

After completing her time in her internship, she moved her talents to Davenport, Iowa to pursue a career as a Multimedia Journalist for NBC-affiliate KWQC-TV6. She fell in love with the Quad Cities and embraced the lifestyle of the community engaging with the viewers.

Throughout her journey, social media became a passion. As a new Wolverine, she is excited to use her background as the Social Media Content Specialist! She is ready to get involved and use her knowledge to connect with the Michigan family! Tatyana will focus on managing several U-M priority Presidential Initiatives.

Tatyana Loves working out at the gym, watching movies, and listening to various podcasts. If you have any cool stories or ideas she would love to hear from you!

Meet Lauren Day!

Hello! My name is Lauren Day. I am a junior here at the University of Michigan, studying Film, Television, and Media with a minor in Art and Design. I am a new UMSocial intern, and am so excited to use my passion for video production here!

I have always been interested in creating and editing photo/video content, and combining that interest with my love for U-M is exactly what I get to do here. In addition to working at UMSocial, I am a producer for the Big Ten Network Student U here on campus, which creates live broadcasts for every sport. Along with being a producer, I am increasingly getting involved in sports journalism and broadcasting.

This summer, I was an intern with CBS Television Distribution in Los Angeles, and worked as a PA (production assistant) at MTV and Comedy Central. I was able to help out on the sets of The Late Late Show, The Doctors, The Four, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. I hope that someday after I graduate I find myself back out there for good.

Outside of class and work, you can find me going to sporting events, traveling, and discovering new yummy restaurants with my friends. My favorite sport to watch is baseball, and I hope to one day go to all of the MLB stadiums at least once!

I am so proud to be a student at the University of Michigan, and I am so excited to bring my ideas to #UMSocial! Go blue!

Meet Michael Heyward!

Hey, Wolverines!

My name is Michael Heyward and I am the newest intern on the #UMSocial team. I am super honored to be working as a part of this team to showcase the very best and brightest of the university. I will be focusing mainly on U-M’s Spotify account, but will also be working on the Instagram account and other social platforms.

I am a senior studying political science and minoring in Entrepreneurship. I plan to apply to Ross’ Master of Management program (mostly so I can stick around Ann Arbor for another year). In my three years here at Michigan, I have been involved in quite a few organizations.

My freshman year I was in the Michigan Community Scholars Program. Being in that community has inspired my activism ever since. Sophomore and senior year I wrote for the “Michigan in Color” section of the Michigan Daily. Being a columnist gave me the ability to speak to issues affecting people like me both on campus and nationally. Additionally, I have worked at the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives for the past two years, where I’ve taken on multiple roles and responsibilities–of which the most enjoyable was making connections with first-year students and being a resource to them as they navigate our large, initially intimidating university.

Like many people my age, social media has almost always been a huge part of my life. But  throughout school, I seemed to care a little bit more about it than my friends did. Even now, I spend much of my free time thinking of new content, writing down possible captions for posts, editing pictures, and saving posts by influencers who inspire me. Last year, I was the campaign manager for the MVision campaign for Central Student Government. Of all of my responsibilities, working with our communications and social media directors on innovative content and memorable marketing was probably my favorite. I hope to do more of the same here at #UMSocial.

In my free time, when I am not obsessing over my Instagram, I am cooking new and exciting foods, catching up on national politics, shopping for clothes, and—occasionally—working out. I also enjoy hanging out, traveling, and trying new restaurants with my friends! However, above all else, I love to cuddle with my nine-year-old Yorkie, Simba.
